Very nice film. I am lucky in living just off the approach to Geneva airport over the lake, and the Ju52s pass by on sight-seeing trips. The most recent were HB-HOS (sponsored by IWC) and HB-HOT. I can hear them coming from some distance and run out to see them: most impressive, especially with the background of the Mont Blanc and Alps.

What a brilliant bit of filming, – absolutely Top Hole..! I’ve always had a soft-spot for Aunty, she so ugly she’s beautiful…..and what superb scenery too…. I always adored that opening to Where Eagles Dare too. Lovely to see the Ju in winter camouflage and the scenery was terrific. The rest of the film was hokum, but again, the settings superb.
Ron Goodwin wrote a lot of really superb film music. Some years ago I attended a superb Wings and Strings at Yeovilton. Ron Goodwin was there to conduct all the favourites. A Spit flew the final air-component against a glorious setting sun with the orchestra at full bore. Hardly a dry eye in the audience. In the evening, we were treated to Sir George Martin conducting many of the classic tunes with which he is so closely associated too. What a treat… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fantastic! but I think they got the music wrong………………….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0nWE4XQdMM

In fact the Ju 52 starring in “Where Eagles Dare” is one of the four seen in my second link. It was one of the ex-Swiss AF ones, now HB-HOP, HB-HOS and HB-HOT. It was Swiss AF when the film was shot, I do not know which one of the three. (BTW the AT-6 starring as Fw 190 would-beยดs were ex-Swiss AF as well, all scrapped after the film.) The airfield scenes were shot in Austria, Aigen im Ennstal near Liezen, used by Austrian AF and private glider clubs and glider training facility (Union Alpensegelflugschule)at that time. HB-HOY, the fourth Ju 52 is in fact a CASA 352, but re-engined with BMW engines.

BMW steering stick, is that normal?

Well, they have BMW engines, so why not a badge in the middle of the steering wheel? ๐Ÿ™‚

Redvanner,

Can’t thank you enough for posting this. I was absolutely stunned by the quality of this footage. I had never thought of the Ju 52 as a particularly graceful or aesthetically appealling ship before but she looked beautiful in this clip.

The added bonus for me, which I didn’t realise until the titles came up at end of the footage, was that the camera used is one that I have an interest in professionally.

Regards

Mike
