Sea Fury and Cessna mid-air over San Francisco Bay

ABC news reports that a Cessna 210 and a Sea Fury TMk.20 have hit each other over the Northern San Francisco Bay late Sunday evening. The Sea Fury landed safely but the Cessna did not. It was a Sea Fury from Sanders Aeronautics.

Yep! Journalism at it’s best there! :p

I was also wondering where the photo of the RC Zero breaking up fitted into the scheme of things!

It is fraudulent for such people to broadcast this sort of material as ‘news.

In an age where information is easier and quicker than ever to access, the integrity of these broadcasters plumbs new depths.

A classic of its kind. If the subject wasn’t so serious it would be worth a good laugh.

Everything is conjecture until a factual report is released.

Cessna above Hawker is a much less hazardous scenario, but …………. who knows ? Very sad, whatever the circumstances.

The report quotes an official as saying the pilots knew each other and that one aircraft flew beneath the other and they touched then the Cessna went down. It does not say which aircraft was beneath. You are assuming it was the Cessna and make deductions based on that but shouldn’t we have clarification?

This report describes one aeroplane underneath the other. High wing Cessna, low wing Sea Fury equals no vision by either pilot.

It should NEVER be allowed to happen, and is VERY uncomfortable if it does, as I know from experience.

It was not a photo sortie, the two aircraft were flying back together from the event at Half Moon Bay with a crew member from the Sea Fury’s operators flying the 210. 🙁

David

Better not to speculate – modern video equipment enables air-to-air video and stills to be achieved using camera fixtures and a dedicated camera operator is not always involved. I am NOT suggesting that is the case here of course, merely suggesting that it would be sensible to await fact based reports about the circumstances. There are already contradictions between some of the reports about the number of people aboard the Sea Fury. Whatever the cause, it is tragic and thoughts go out to those involved and their families.

One person listed as missing in the Cessna so I would guess no.
