I’ve said I will research a friends Father’s RAF history, she has a beautifully bound Pilots log plus his medals and a certificate for the Caterpillar Club but sadly not the badge until I go through the log I have his name
Flight Lt A Davidson and that at some point he served in 531 and 610 Squadrons, anybody help with ideas how to progress things

thanks, he seems to have transferred from the Army, his whole Cranwell intake looks to be Army as well, is this why he was a VR

Hi John, Alan Hubert Davidson known as ‘Dave’ all through his service, no service number yet although I now have his service record from the back of his log, I have him in 530, 610, 93, and 601, he volunteered for overseas duty and fought in Sicily and Italy, and has 1 confirmed FW190

A.H. Davidson is listed in both 531 & 610 Squadron ORB’s with service number 126592, but this doesn’t come up with anything in London Gazette.

The surviving next-of-kin are entitled to a colour photocopy of his service record.
It used to be from RAF Innsworth, but that may have changed.
It’s the best possible starting point and well worth the few quid it costs

This is the best place to start, RAF Disclosures moved to RAF Cranwell a few years ago.

My friend who is Secretary of the 610 Sqn Association says he is glad to research and provide any information he holds on Flt Lt Davidson (including a photograph). The enquirer should provide an appropriate email address through the 610 Squadron website. The email address will remain hidden from public access.

looking at his log book his flying training seemed to take a long time, from jan 41 until nov 42 was this normal at this stage of the War

thanks ericmunk I found that, presumably he was part of Bader’s Tangmere wing, I’ll try the website as well
thanks Moggy C I think it’s worth perusing,

The 610 Squadron Association would be a good start, at http://www.610squadron.com/
Their website show him serving at Westhampnett Jan/April ’43 (must have flown Spitfire V then).
