I have been approached by a work colleague whos Grandfather, Warrant Officer Douglas John Gillam, was the RADAR operator on Beaufighter V8460 of 141 squadron, piloted by Flight Sergeant Robertson, that was lost while on a serrate mission over France on 15/16 August 1943 following an engagement with a German bomber most likely a Do 217. Both Beaufighter crew managed to bail out and were made POWs.
My colleague and his family have researched the loss of this aircraft but would like to know more details, mainly was the German aircraft a Do217? This was reported to be flying east to west then made a 180 degree turn and headed back the way it came, why was the aircraft being operated like this?
I do have a copy of the families finding so far, should you want to see it please PM me.
Thank you in advance

My colleague Chris Goss was contacted by the granddaughter a year or so ago.
Chris supplied all the information available to her and advised that from his researches nothing was conclusive as regards the German aircraft.
