Aviation /War Movies that have never appeared

Over the past decade there have been a number of aviation /war movies which have been announced but have yet to appear. Best known is Peter Jackson’s
‘ Dambusters’ remake which has been discussed at length. In addition there are the following films –

1) ‘Destroyer’ about the sinking of HMS Coventry. No news since 2012 though IMDB gives release date of 2014.
2) Film about early days of SAS in N Africa. Announced several years ago,no news since.
3) Two different films about ‘Flying Tigers’, one starring Tom Cruise. No news for years.
4) New film about Battle of Britain. Producer Robert Townes. Announced years ago.
5) TV series about Castle Bromwich Spitfire factory in WW2. No news for years.
6) New version of ‘The Final Countdown’ . No news for years.
7) New film about Battle of Midway. No news for years.

Does anyone know if any of these films are actually being made?

Colin

re the Dam busters remake a lot of money has been spent already the ten full size replica Lancaster’s are sitting in a storage warehouse in NZ. But it has run into production problems as the producer to be David Frost has died.
There have been arguments over departing from fact as a certain Mr fry employed on the screen play has tried a few different versions of names for Guy Gibson’s Dog because Nigger is said to be to racist even though it was the poor animals name. And also funding is said to be an issue as US backers have apparently questioned why they should put money into a project about something the Brits did during ww2 and it does not have either Tom Cruise ,Bruce Willis,or Arnie in it ?? .

So will it appear in the next ten years or are we to see full size Lancaster replicas being auctioned off ?? I suspect possibly the latter.

And then there was “The Few”, the Tom Cruise film about Billy Fiske supposedly going into production a decade ago.

Films of this sort will be massively expensive now so I suppose putting together the finance and distribution deals to be sure of a certain return is a long, complex and far from certain process. For the next 4 years WW1 films might be the better bet – at the risk of overkill, of course!
