G-AJVD also had an early construction number-10 although may not have been an original Canadian demonstrator aircraft. It took part at the 21st anniversary of the first flight of the D.H.82 Tiger Moth which was held at Denham Airfield in 1952 and attended by a good turnout of aeroplanes. David Whitworth took some excellent photos of these at the time, including DVD in London Aeroplane’s Flying Club colours of silver fuselage and yellow trims. I only had a small box camera at that time so that my photos were poor in comparison.

G-AKDN was based for many years at Knettishall airfield on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, up until the late 1990s when the elderly owner of the Chipmunk sold it. The aircraft was a familiar sight in the area and was painted in a yellow and white paint scheme, it was a regular visitor to our hangar at Swanton Morley. I seem to recall that there were some issues regarding the maintenance of the aircraft as the modification and directives that were applied to the UK-built Chipmunks did not apply to this particular airframe. It was a very nice example and it’s great to see it restored back to its original de Havilland paint scheme.
