Without looking at youtube, there was a classic “Fly with Prudence” film in which a Spitfire pilot ignores a soft ground warning and taxies into a patch of deep mud, swiping off the undercarriage in the process.
A serviceable Spitfire was used for the flying and landing sequences and a written-off Spitfire was to be used for the taxiing accident, following having its main u/c legs being cut 75% through to ensure a good collapse on the mud in front of the camera.
To beat the pundits, the scrap Spitfire was dressed on-site in the same codes and serials of the serviceable aeroplane before shooting commenced, the two machines being parked together overnight . Surgery was then conducted on one machine’s u/c legs for the next days shoot……..

Need I continue?
