These two deserve all our congratulations.

You can pass on your thoughts at the bottom of the story, bless them both. Next year I will take him flying again and get her back in our control tower at Seething so she can talk him down one more time.

Steve and Maureen are such a lovely couple, I spent some time chatting with them at their home a few years ago and will treasure the memory. As far as I remember, Steve did a tour on 57 Squadron flying Lancs in 1943 and lost (I think) four bomb-aimers in tragic circumstances. I’ll see if I can dig out my notes.

Darwin, We did the story first then sold it on the the Daily mail and other national press( I am a photo journalist by the way). Normally when I go and visit couples to photograph their extra long wedding celebrations I am there for about 15mins max, I was with Steve and Maureen for nearly 2 hours and I wasn’t doing much of the talking!!!!!

Geoff, I had a chance to have a quick glance at his log books, from the top of my head I can recall Tiger Moth, Harvard, Vultee, Stearman, Oxford, Wellington, Manchester, Lancaster, Chipmunk.
Thirty ops in Lancasters, and on one page at the end of his first tour it listed the names of the various crew he that had flown with him and against quite a few of them in red, DEAD or POW, sort of brings it home when you see it in his own hand at the actual time it was happening. I can’t give you their contact details for obvious reasons but if you can provide me with your details and reason for contacting them I will pass it on to them and they can decide if they would like to talk too you, hope you understand.

Made me think of the David Niven film. Cant remember the title at the moment

Powell & Pressburger’s ‘A Matter of Life & Death’ (but obviously I type less quickly!). Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUlUrh5zKH8 from 04:53 to 10:14.

I met them at Aces High earlier this year, they were on separate tables, but Steve was very keen to point out that that was the Mrs on the other one.

A wonderful story, I wish them the very best and I wish you the very best for your gesture to them.
