Researching my Uncle at the moment. Victor Drewett was with “A” Company, 12th Devonshire Regiment, 6th Airbourne. Victor saw action on D-Day by being part of the 1st reinforcements landed by Glider that evening as part of “Parker Force”. His Regiments Diary has him taking off from Farringdon Airfield but I am unsure where this is. I am guessing that its in Devon possibly close to Bulford Camp but can’t seem to find any information on this.
Can anyone help me with any information at all.
Many thanks.:)

OK, I think I have now found it. Airfield was Down Ampney. Records show that on the evening of 6th June a Dakota of 28Sqn ditches in the sea, this mirrors Regiment diary so I think I have found where my Uncle took off from.
Many thanks for steering me in the right area…

Ok. Looks like its Farringdon in Oxford then, does say in Regt Diary that they leave Brize by Motor Transport to Farringdon. Devon would be too far I suspect at that final moment.. Thanks. I will keep looking for more clues though.

Farringdon in Devon is near Exeter Airport. It was units of the US 101st Airborne division who flew from Exeter on D-day though.

Faringdon in Oxfordshire is close to three airfields that launched gliders on D day. Fairford, Broadwell and Brize Norton
