Harrier, Tornado,Phantom, helicopter sales at Hixon

Starting a new thread on the massive Air & Ground sale at Hixon in case people did not read the ‘Phantom lands at Hixon’ thread. It’s Day 2 of the sale tomorrow, and a lot of the larger items are up for sale. Including the Hercs, the Phantom, the Harrier engines, the Lynx and Sea Kings. I don’t know how today’s sale went, the weather was awful most of the time.

I notice that among the 500+ lots which are due to go tomorrow are Harrier canopies, Tornado radome and fin, Gazelle, Lynx, Sea King rotor blades. Have a look at the catologue on the other thread, and the video of the items

The Phantom bidding was upto the reserve i dont think any one actually bid that high, the Yellow wessex is supposedly going to a buyer in Paris who has not collected it as yet. The Grey Sea King was sold.

Seems odd as I thought it was a sale to clear the site for a move . With the Phantom reportedly bid to 17K there should easily have been a sale concluded!

The grey Sea King is also still there. Interestingly the air-sea rescue Wessex wasn’t even in the sale, it’s still outside at the Shirleywitch site, where the Spitfire used to be

The F4 did not sell or the Hercs. I believe half of the Lynx did not sell either mainly the ex RN ones.

He’s had those parts for some time; nothing to do with the recent auction.

.

Looking at his title I’d love to see half the aircraft listed there sporting this under the wing!

The Waddington example went to Everett Aero. The example at Hixon is the one that Yorkshire Air Museum tried to get hold of but ended up having its wings chopped off so it could become a gate guard at Hixon.

I had a report to me this morning of two ex AAC Lynx cabs seen road running through Kirkham in Lancashire, probably ex Hixon auction. No further details as my mate was following a few cars back.

I sincerely doubt there is a demand for odd bits like this, guess time will tell, the basic premise for some on Ebay is if it is a bit of an aircraft particularly RAF, collectors will pay big money for it. They obviously haven’t been to a few aerojumbles 🙂

mmmmm only £495, can think of lots of better things to spend £495 on. In my previous years Helicopter parts were always the kiss of death, no one wanted them, I could barely give them away, including parts of one of the prototype Merlins. Has demand changed now. Still I suppose you could polish it up stick a light bulb in it and ask £4950

I wonder how long it is before we start seeing some bits from the sale on EBay!

Not long it would seem….

Seen one of the Sea king’s this morning from the sale on the back of a lorry heading into Sheffield… Can only guess it was heading into one of the big Scrap yards…

The Pegasus engines appeared to go to alot of different buyers many taking singles and others taking batches of 2 unto 4 many were internet bidders. We tried to get one but they were more than we could spare at about £3000 average with vat etc.
