Another reminder of how old the wartime generation is now.

From ITV
http://www.itv.com/news/story/2013-11-10/funeral-dambusters-war-veteran-harold-jellicoe-percival/

Reminiscent of the story of Dam Buster Bill Townsend’s rear gunner who died in poverty in the late 70’s. He would have gone to a paupers grave had there not been a media appeal then and help from his ex-comrades.

by the scenes on sky-news he had a grand send off, as mentioned above pity it needed the undertakers appeal, but all credit to him for doing it.

Heard and interview with the undertaker on Radio 5 last night. They are now expecting hundreds of people to attend the funeral including representatives of the RAFA, RAFBF, RBL, RAF ans the Army!

This comment on there says a bit to me as well ” What a shame that Mr Coe Percival did not get this attention when he was alive and that it has taken a newspaper advert to get anyone to go to his funeral. Well done to those who are making the effort now.”

It all started from an advert placed in a paper, one gets the feeling this chap will get seen off in style, and so he should.
