Anyone else planning on being there? Not sure when we’ll arrive as we are probably picking someone up, and it’s a three hour drive, but we are staying for the night taxi run.

Here’s a YouTube clip showing some of the ‘tinkering’ that goes on in the U/C bay prior to start up:

Not my footage, so I’ve linked it rather than inserting it in my post.

Just before the 3pm run, we were told over the Tannoy that it was the first part of the starting sequence – the engineers climb into the nacelle to prime the engines – ie pump neat fuel into the cylinders. I guess either the outboard ones can be primed from the same spot, or they are primed once the pumps are under power?

Really enjoyable evening, fireworks were the best I’ve ever seen.
Probably a dumb question but what are the engineers doing when they climb into the wheel bays just prior to start up?

Any help? Please excuse the obvious dodgy edit!
We loved it – though it does my cred as a flatlander no good to admit that I had underestimated just how cold an airfield in Lincolnshire could be. It hurled it down for the 3pm taxi run (hence the rainbow), but gave some lovely dramatic lighting conditions. The fireworks were spectacular, though I could have done without the one that bounced off my head!
My gast was flabbered by the condition of the Wellington wings – they almost looked like a lick of paint and a bit of fabric, and they could be flying again. Amazing for a crash site recovery. Actually, my gast was flabbered by the whole place. Three hours drive or not, I will be going back!

thanks to everyone at EK for an excellent evening of entertainment. The fireworks were amazing – and I think better than last year, which was hard – and nice to see the SW-36 in operation (finally!)
you just need to sort the hog roast queue now!
I went and had a very enjoyable evening. The kit and bomb talks were very informative. The Lancaster at night very evocative.
Never seen a search light in operation before (btw what’s the history of the search light?. It’s a lot smaller than I would have expected of a ww2 search light. Anyone know what it’s range is?).
I agree the queues for the hog roast were too long and excluded us from taking part. In fact if we hadn’t grabbed a burger early we wouldn’t have been able to eat.
But I can’t complain as everything else made the day.
Did anyone else do a double take watching the crew standing by the bomber. Certainly made me think.

Yes you can just turn up on the gate, not pre-booking required. More space and more lighting than previous years. Forecast looks fine too!

As far as I can see from the website you can just turn up, but I’m sure NX611 will put me right.
Assuming you can (no, I haven’t booked anything!), we should meet up…

100 views and no replies. I guess no-one else is going, and no-one fancies meeting up? Or should I have made that clearer in my OP?:(
