This was first shown on TV In about 1980. Have to say it must be my most watched documentary ever. It was filmed by the station commander Group Captain Ilif cousins with a Belle and Howel 40 DA.8mm Camera. The clip showing the expression on the Lanc Pilots face with a full bomb load on take off as he is biting his lips, will she unstick from the run way. Had me on the edge of my seat watching this bit. I got a friend to record it for me on VHS. The blank tape cost me £12. Couldn’t afford a machine. Still got the tape though quite warn now.

On the Lancaster theme, YT now is showing the ‘Night Bombers’ film, with full colour footage of a Lanc squadron at Hemswell
The footage includes an air to air sequence of a Lanc getting airborne, which I have not seen bettered in any film from any era. I seem to recall it was filmed from an Oxford taking off in parallel. Look from 32.45
The shot of dozens of bomber taxiing en masse is very striking as well .
