G’day,
sorry about all the Tracker threads but a group of us are trying to save some of the RAN’s Tracker heritage and time is very much against us, we keep running into new problems and don’t have the breathing space to search for all the answers we would like. The search radar is an AN/APS-38, would anyone know if it contains radium? Is it normal for radars to contain radioactive components?

It’s quite feasible as there are a number of British and American Valves (Vac Tubes) that have varying levels of radioactive isotope – usually Cobalt-60 or Radium-226.

What is most dangerous with Vac Tubes is their fragility and likelihood that they will be or become damaged when the item containing them is being removed/dismantled. It would then be possible to ingest these products as dust, or get them into a cut etc.
