I am fully engaged with the film at that point! No matter how many times I see it (and I know the aircraft comes to no harm) I am always on the edge of my seat willing the thing into the air!

As Peter O’Toole say’s. “Fly Yah B******d Fly!” When shown after 9pm of course.

And what is portrayed as someone who does not know how to fly is in fact a demonstration of someone who is very skilled.

Hats off to the late Frank Tallman…and the guys at Grumman.
For more on flying the Grumman Duck, read Tallman’s Flying the Old Planes, and there was an lengthy article about him, the aircraft and the filming in a period Flying magazine.

I love the enthusiastic flying in this film, you dont see vortices from biplane wing tips very often. And the amount of water the engine gets doused in yet still seems to run happily is amazing.
Its all in this clip of the best bits of the film(the flying that is).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aED7xvYbMfw
