dark light

Help needed to id RAF bomb sight part.

Dear all,

Found this item at an auction today and wondered if any of you are able to tell me what it is and which types of aircraft would have used it.

Looks like GPI MK1B, there would have been a name plate on the right hand end.

Yes there is what appears to be a bulb located on the side.
I can’t find a date on it so am unable to assist you with that information.

Not part of a bomb sight but a Ground Position Indicator. The idea is that it sat above the Navigators chart table and powered via an Air Milage Unit would project a narrow light beam onto the chart directly below to show the position of the aircraft. What is the date on it? Without digging out the books the Wartime ones differed from the Postwar versions mainly in chart scale I think.
