Does anyone have any news on the B-25 Mitchell crash on May 31st, 2011, in France near Melun-Villaroche, south-east of Paris. It appears the B-25 is F-AZZU, s/n 44-58811, which is known as “Russell’s Raiders” and is well known in France due to its regular appearances at the La Ferté airshow

Wow! As TT said, an amazing “den” of goodies.
As for the B25, it’s a great shame she won’t fly but considering how badly damaged she was and how much worse the whole incident could have been it’s great that she’s at least been saved for static.

Hello,
Last information from a couple of months : the plane was sold after the accident to a new owner, (The AMPAA association or one of its members) and is planned for a long term restoration for static display in the AMPAA hangar, always in Melun Airport.
Of course, she could be restored to flying condition but if restored by a professionnal workshop, it will cost more than the market value of B-25. So, the logical decision taken by its previous owner.
The owner of the B-25 when she was airworthy, also sold Its Catalina this year.

AFAIK it is still with the Musée de l’Aviation Melun-Villaroche. See this page and scroll down for a photo from December 2018: http://foxalphazoulou.overblog.com/2018/12/le-musee-d-aviation-de-melun-villaroche.html

no idea of the exact status of the B25 but I believe it is still at melun villaroche in France. the probable Handler of the B25 is SPDA (C AMARA) and to have more détails I suggest you to contact France flying warbirds, a warbird association based at melun villarcoche which group various planes including SPDA planes as P51, P40 etc.
good luck with your B25, nice job

Hi All,
Very sad news indeed but on the flip side as already mentioned about being restored could be a good candidate for the Sand Bar Mitchell restoration, That is of course if the owners plan to offload the aircraft. 🙁Geoff.
Hello All,
Patrick from the Warbirds Of Glory Museum with Sandbar Mitchell. Any updates on what became of this B-25? Is there anyone that can put me in contact with the organization/owners of the aircraft.
Happy New Year
Patrick

Anything is restorable, and this B-25 would be a good candidate for restoration/rebuild by a professional company. However, it would require major repairs. Starboard engine, engine nacelle and prop are gone. Starboard wing/centre section has probable spar and fire damage. Port wing has major damage (spar broken). Underside of fuselage buckled over entire length. Fuselage broken in half aft of the trailing edge. Port prop destroyed, port engine damaged. Port engine nacelle severe damaged. Possible damage to wing/centre section attachments.
Having said that, a lot more has been done with a lot less.

So a return to flight is probably around 2030 if ever ?

Google is your friend, lots of information on the web.
Engine fire, clipepd power lines during forced landing in a cornfield, then did a heavy belly landing. Substantial damage (broken fuselage and wing, engine ripped out, etc), but fortunately no injuries.
