Has anybody got a copy of Section 5UC of A.P. 1086, covering Voltage Regulators, that I could have a copy or scan of please?
Many thanks,
Andy

Hi Terry,
Yes, please! All information is useful.
Do you still have my email address from when we exchanged scans related to the DR Compass?
Many thanks,
Andy

Carbon Pile Regulators
I don’t have the AP1086 for Sect 5UC as you requested, but I do have scans of AP4343B Volume 1 Sect 1 which details quite a few carbon pile regulator types, if wanted:

Paul,
Thanks, anything you can find will be of great interest, another piece of the jigsaw!

From your reply and my limited memory of trawling through it several months ago, it may be the case that all we have is a general servicing manual for the two or three commonly fitted types, without much reference to why so many apparent alternative parts are required. It may offer us something, watch this space.

Hi Paul,
I’m particularly interested in the carbon-pile ‘heart’ of the voltage regulators, and in particular why there seem to be so many different part numbers! I can see that there will be a range of control coil resistances and operating voltages, and a range of pile resistance, and also a maximum allowed dissipation. They generally seem to have 5UC part numbers, so wonder if this part of AP1086 gives any clues. Some parts of AP1086 give a lot of information, others give zilch!

Hi Andy
We have a manual that covers several voltage regulator types, but unsure of the AP number till i get down to base at the weekend, so i’ll let you know.
Are you after voltage regulator details that fit a particular aircraft type, or general regulator build details / theory?
