On Saturday 14/9 Radio 4 ran the story of Wynford Vaughan-Thomas’s report recorded aboard a Lancaster Bomber during a raid on Berlin in 1943. A combination of current and the 1943 broadcast recorded on shellac disks.
As usual, apologies if dealt with elsewhere, mods please delete if so.

I can’t get that link to work properly … in a hotel in NZ mind you which might have a bearing on things. I heard the 1st few minutes and it says “in a plane nicknamed F for Freddy” Do we know what squadron and crew they (BBC crew) flew with?
Off that … Google is my friend. 207 Sqdn

Does anyone know if it was the same crew who flew Wynford Vaughan-Thomas on his raid to Berlin who were flying E586 when she went missing on 6th Jan 1944?

Unfortunately, only caught the end of this on R4. I recall W V-T talking about this on the BBC Parkinson talk show in the early 80s (with Clive James, if I recall correctly!) The show last night was more than just the W V-T recording which is available on CD (and to download). Just hope it’s on again at some point.
