Details of Hurricane or Tempest Wing Pins

Does anyone have any pictures of hurricane (or tempest) wing pins in situ and pins themselves? I am also hoping someone may have some pictures (or examples) of the AM removal tool for them? With the population of these types increasing all the time I may be in with a chance that someone has these details to hand…

Thanks in advance

Ian,

Thanks, so in the end only one of the doubtful digits was wrong.

With regards
Geoff

Foray- Let me know if you find that “special washer”- I wouldn’t mind seeing a photo of it.

Will do when the complete (except split pin) Hurricane rear spar unit below comes apart. It’s very similar to the example in Windhover’s photo (#12), but of course the part number is different. The bolt number is A74233, as best I can read it but the stamping is very poor. The last two digits might be 55.

For the Hawker Typhoon;

The Tapered Wing Bolt group Part Number. is:
A95024.

Component part Numbers as follows.

Tapered Bolt: A95022.
Bush: A95018.
Bush: A95019.
Bush: A95020.
Nut: A95023.
Washer: A95021.

In the pic below; the aft bush is not fitted, as it was completely corroded away. It is the same profile as the forward bush, but with a smaller inside and outside diameter to allow for the taper on the bolt.

Bolt and Washer thread size:
¾” BSF. 12 TPI.

This is the special washer:

and, in-situ on the wing pin:

The corrosion is caused by 70+ years underground!

Hi Dave,

The extractor is PN A114356 and is comprised of bolt PN A114171, sleeve PN A114167, and base PN A114357-59. There is also a “universal box spanner for wing pins” PN B114176. Please let me know if you don’t have these drawings available to you and I will send them your way.

This Forum software is not great for photo uploads imho.

Cheers

I’m working on this now for a Tempest. Don’t have any pictures, but have gathered some technical information.
