A T6 did have a problem, it pulled out of the race. Trailing smoke, landed ok with a hot engine. The Hellcat taxed into a truck I think. I turned to take a photo of the Bearcat following so missed it. No one looked hurt. They moved the Hellcat back to the pits. Later moved it again with prop tips covered.

Now hearing something about a T6, (NOT a crash). The person who told me isn’t exactly a reliable source though.

Would love to have gone this year! Nothing compares to the Reno air racing event!

Just been a slight mishap. No sure of the exact details, but either someone just drove their truck into the front of the CAF Hellcat.. or the Hellcat just taxied into a truck. Only seen one (bad quality) pic so far & the truck appears to have a prop blade embedded in the bonnet.

The wing mounted radiators on the Spitfire are way too draggy! Perfect airframe apart from that. Steve Hinton was modifying PS890 for Reno (Contra prop, clipped wings) but ideally it needed a boil off cooling system. Then Christophe Jacquard came along with some cash…

Griffon Spits have run the course, nowhere near race speed.

Why no Spitfires at Reno. Is it because of available airframes or the Spit is just not modifiable for racing?
Would be interesting to see how a Griffon Spit would do.

Structural integrity has to be proven…
Are there any repercussions from the Galloping Ghost crash?
I seem to remember reading that anyone who had ‘modified’ an airframe now has to provide some proof that the modification made can withstand the predicted airspeed and aerodynamic loadings, and that the mod has not compromised the integrity of the airframe at those speeds/aerodynamic loads etc. I think the entrant also has to make a statement to the effect that such testing has been done, and that the plane is safe.
There are certainly a number of additions/changes to the 2013 rules when compared to 2012 rules – look on the Reno website and the 2013 rules and regs are published ther, and they seem to bear out my recollection above.
