Of no great significance, but…
I was watching this yesterday, the Beaufighter episode. It got to the point where a civilian boot is discovered in the hole and Harry Harris explains about the licensing of digs.
My daughter, just turned 11, was watching with me. When she heard that the dig wouldn’t have been permitted if there was any likelihood of human remains she immediately reacted by saying, “that’s when we should dig them up; how would they like it if they were left alone in a hole and no-one knew where they were”
Like many others I’ve been aware of the issues around digs for many years, but I’ve never had any conversations about the subject with my daughter. We then had a conversation and I explained both sides of the debate. It really was striking how instinctive her opinion was that we should recover the remains.
