Pictures of my Visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum today. (Halifax content)

Given the rarity of seeing the Halifax outside, I had to go and get some pictures. Thought I’d share them with you lot. 🙂

Terrific photos, thanks for posting. Lovely to see the Halifax outside and a great opportunity taken. Hangars are dark places when it comes to photography and there’s only so much you can do to get round the problem.

Thanks 🙂

I totally agree with your sentiment, getting the aircraft outside really brings the museum to life. I wish they could do it more often, but I fully understand the concerns for the aircraft, and the financial penalty of doing this regularly.

Perhaps (and I may suggest this in person) they could arrange to get the BBMF Lancaster to make a short stop at Elvington at some point, for an outdoor photoshoot with the Halifax. That would certainly draw a crowd.

I won’t be able to spare much time on Sunday due to wedding commitments, but I’ll do my best to pop down at 3ish. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen Lindy run.

My family live in Elvington, and I only live 5 minutes away from the museum, so it shouldn’t be too hard to sneak off for a few minutes! 😀

With my sisters Wedding there this weekend, I’m being given plenty of excuses to visit YAM. 🙂

Today I arrived to find Mr Agar refitting one of the Mosquitoes props.

The Halifax has plenty of room around her at the moment

And a rare shot of the 109 replica in daylight

. As for the Halifax being at the front it would be nice however it blocks everything else in so we’d have to get it out every time one of the runners had to come out which would be a nightmare.

Now that would be a terrible shame, imagine the number of photographs that would be taken of her outside in the fresh air :dev2:

There is of course a solution to the problem- GET HER ENGINES RUNNING :eagerness:

Doesn’t the back of the hangar open too?

It does but the whole hangar would need to be cleared out to re organise everything. Everything would need to come down from the roof as well. It may happen in the future but it needs manpower to do it, something we are lacking! Bearing in mind all the aircraft movement is done by volunteers, in their own time.

Any one know if/when YAM will be putting up their 2nd hangar ?

Bob T.

It’s a problem of funds I believe that’s holding everything back, we desperately need another one for all the exhibits. As for the Halifax being at the front it would be nice however it blocks everything else in so we’d have to get it out every time one of the runners had to come out which would be a nightmare.

The 109 is a replica, but she’s mainly wooden IIRC. I helped Danny Thornton put her together when I was a volunteer ages ago. We made the rivets by putting card through a hole punch! 😀

The Halifax looks spectacular, it’s a shame she’s usually stuck at the back of the hangar. I hope they decide to keep her at the front, and wheel her out on the odd nice day we have.

IIRC Blue2 said a while ago that Tony had some other issues that had taken some focus from the Mossie. It’s still a fantastic display, and fingers crossed they get her running soon.

No.4 prop on the Halibag looks like its missing a collar from a blade root. Both from the front and the side it appears out of alignment…

Very nice. I visited the museum in July and was very impressed. Its certainly come a long way since my previous visit, although, admittedly it was seventeen years ago.

I take it the 109 is a plastic?.

The Halifax does have a presence does it not?

I’ll be adding some more in a couple of weeks, as my sister is getting married there a week on Saturday.
