Odiham Familes Day

Well, a change for me this year. My usual Saturday trip up to Duxford for Flying Legends was swapped for a more local jaunt to Odiham for their RAF family day. These family days aren’t generally open to the public and so after viewing Google Earth the night before, I located myself near the northern end of the active runway in a cornfield and switched my radio to Test Match Special.

Equiped with my trusty folding chair, cool bag, camera and umbrella, I sat waiting for the Breitling Super Constellation to come into view, thus fulfilling the rumours that it would be based there until RIAT. Sadly, they turned out just to be rumours (as usual), but never the less, there were some more interesting arrivals/participants. A nice selection of Cubs, Austers and Chipmunks was accompanied by my first sighting of Pietenpol Air Camper and a very smart Jungmann.

Aswell as the blades, the BBMF put on their usual immaculate display and a nimble routine from a Folland Gnat added to the afternoon.

Eventually, despite the cooling down draughts from passing Chinooks and Lynxs, the heat got too much and I retired to the car for the drive of a few miles home, feeling very sunburnt.
