Today marks the 70th anniversary of a local crash.
The aircraft was a de Havilland Mosquito from 25 Squadron, serial number HJ921.
Both crew members sadly lost their lives in the crash, they were:
144280 Pilot Officer Jack Grundy RAFVR (Pilot) Aged 20 (Buried Nottingham Southern Cemetery)
1375542 Flight Sergeant Roy Thomas Steed RAFVR (Passenger) Aged 28 (Buried Totteridge St Andrew Churchyard)
I’m not sure if there will be a formal commemoration of the accident, so I would like to ask my fellow Forum members to please spare a thought for these chaps today.
