I have followed the story of The Night Witches for years. It is sad to hear of her passing. Blues Skies brave lady. Or should that be black sky?

Amazing … I vaguely knew of the existence of these biplane night bombers having read a few accounts of the Eastern front. But I had no idea about the 588th Night Bomber Regiment or of this amazing lady. She has my utmost respect. As do her colleagues who fell before her.

Thank you OP for bringing this to our attention.

It’s a shame that the Russians don’t get the respect or notice they have earnt for bravery in WWII not much is ever said in particular about the women not just in the Russian air force but all women involved but the article sheds a little light on one of the hero’s may she get the respect she deserves as all the women should.
God bless Nadezhda Popova your in a better place now.

Fascinating obituary. The Night Witches story is invariably recounted at Old Warden whenever the PO-2 displays, so her exploits will live on….

I’ll second that. An extraordinary woman, pilot, hero. And a very charming interviewee, as well. Blue skies, Madame…
