I found this piece about Sculthorpe, which was posted last year.
http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/military-sites/71767-raf-sculthorpe-norfolk-may-2012-a.html
It says….The airfield is used most nights by the 352nd Special Operations Group from RAF Mildenhall. The aircraft specialise in low level dropping of equipment, and specialised material including paratroops. They can be seen over the airfield from late evening, often until the early hours. After dropping their respective packages, they land to collect or reload using runway 06/24.
Anyone know if this is still the case ?

Had a quick ride around Wicken Park and Tattersett business park this evening.
No sign of any security.
Yes there are fences separating the parks from the runways and control tower and padlocked gates on the roads leading to them. The buildings on the parks are shuttered.
So I would say that if you entered any of the buildings or crossed over the fence, then you would be committing an offence.
What you could be charged with I don’t know.

There are Notams in place when the airfield is going to be used by the US special forces.

I’d be interested to know what the security level is like at Sculthorpe
(Not that I have any intention of going there)Going by the pictures in the link of my original post, there seemed to be no problem in them going into
the old buildings and tower.
Is it still patrolled by the MOD police, or (more likely) a civilian security company. Or is it not patrolled ?
The only part with “keep out” signs, seems to be the runway area. Most of the buildings being either
demolished or derelict. Is the industrial area fenced off from the rest of the airfield ?
Alan according to a couple of people I have talked to, say You can get onto the base from the industrial estate and Wicken Green, but are soon stopped by security men, It appears that they can see you, but you can’t see them. Might nip up there and have a look myself when I can get a day off.

Am sure that you would be committing trespass if you went on there.
Fencing is still all around it, not sure if civil security is used.
Know someone, who knows, so will find out for you.
Thanks, it would be appreciated.

Alan: Your questions suggest you are a closet urbexer.
I had to look that up 🙂
If I were a bit younger, had the time, and lived closer, maybe.
It’s really to settle a friendly argument with a friend. Regarding whether or not the people who
went on the base were breaking any laws or not.
My argument being, that at worst they would be told to get out. It would be nice to have some
local info.

They usually send their ground crew and fuel tankers up by road.

Thanks for that.
From the pictures taken last year. I take it that there are no longer any ground facilities still in use ?
It’s only the runway they use ?
