Rotax Boost Coil type NB14/2

Yet more dusty old rubbish off a shelf in the garage with a request for info.

I have several of these boost coils. According to the Milrecs site, these were used on “Spitfire, Typhoon and wartime fighters” but corroboration of this would be appreciated? These are Stores Ref. 37A/1815 and are 24v.

They were scheduled to be part of this year’s Great Garage Clearout at CockpitFest but the hire trailer I’d booked had not been returned on Friday morning and I had to make do with one not much bigger than my camping trailer, resulting in a postponement of the clearout.

Could do with a cheap aerojumble, with good weather and an outside plot of largish dimensions, preferably this year, so the clearout can still go ahead. Anyone? 🙂

You are welcome again at CockpitsWest at Halfpenny Green on 1st September, AM, free stalls, and inside the hangar or out, for more room.

I may start another “what’s this?” thread to identify them and their uses (as long as Key are happy for me to do so, of course). There might well be other Firefly related bits amongst it all.

!

Sounds like a good idea!

what was the other FAA stuff that came with the Booster coils?

You’ve browsed much of it on the stall for thirty years now!

More seriously, there’s quite a few big and heavy bits that came from the same source which I’ve never bothered taking to ‘jumbles. I may start another “what’s this?” thread to identify them and their uses (as long as Key are happy for me to do so, of course). There might well be other Firefly related bits amongst it all.

A pity the trailer hire place let me down for CockpitFest as I was going to take a large pile of it, with the intention of not bringing any of it back!

Have a ww11 brass label which reads, H.T.BOOSTER COIL. VOLTS 24. M. TYPE NIKB. just wondered, if it was specific to type, could anyone id’ it, I know exactly what it came from originally because I found it, a school boy pick-up. no prizes for correct answer.

Many thanks, Pete.

Remembering their origin, mention of the Firefly makes sense as they came with a lot of other F.A.A. stuff.

Now if only we knew someone with a Firefly project (or better still, three or four)…

Used on the Griffon, Spitfire and Firefly use them. The Shackleton uses the same internals but in a different box.
I didn’t know the Sabre used them, but quite plausible.
It’s a low tension coil, so not suitable for Merlins and other types that require an HT booster coil.
