Didn’t mean to cause offence.

Wasn’t really directed at you, just wanted to make sure posters are aware that relatives of this tragic incident may happen upon this thread (as they have before)

Sorry, my previous post does appears blunt.

Wasn’t meaning any disrespect to anyone- just saw link on Wikipedia and thought it an interesting/sad/poignant (from point if view of families) story. Very interesting also about the CRM stuff.

Didn’t mean to cause offence.

Was there not a thread on this very subject a few years back.

ISTR Lt Col Arthur “Bud” Holland’s daughter wrote a few (emotive) words on that thread.

Have respect before posting.

Not sure why anyone thinks it’s worth while resurrecting this sad story right now.

I always have great admiration for pilots who perform sedate displays at airshows. Especially when the aircraft, conditions, own abilities dictate.
With all the pressure to perform sometimes having the professionalism not to is a greater skill. Especially when others lives are at stake.

Yes, the Wikipedia article tells the story pretty well- the less said about the pilot the better I think. As it said, he killed all the rest of the crew, including the man whose final flight it was before retiring. Horrible.

The man should never have been flying, he was a danger to himself and others, most of the crew on that fateful flught were senior officers as the rest of the wing crews refused to fly with him, sadly it was to their demise.

It’s odd that people (posters/mods, etc) recoil at video of airshow crashes like this weekend’s Stearman mishap in Ohio, but can’t seem to get enough of this crash.
Remember, it’s not CGI from a film. Yes, the pilot was a well-known “hot dog” and messed up, but remember there were other men aboard the aircraft as well.
