Ex Redhill ATC Glider

I heard a story that 135 Sqn ATC at Redhill had a dismantled glider stored under a tarpaulin on site until about 3 or 4 years ago when the site had a general tidy up and various stuff including the glider disappeared. Can anyone clarify the identity of the glider and what happened to it? I guess it was either junked or it passed into a restorer’s hands.

Okay, for clarification, I was referring to 135 Sqn ATC. They share a site in central Redhill with the Territorials. It is unusual but not unknown for aircraft to be there. Apparently the ex Redhill College Dove was stored there for a short while.

it could equally be a T38 grasshopper which I looked at in one of the hangars at Redhill that had just come on site and was up for sale for £500, as it so happened, I bought another one, but the owner I met wanted to get rid of it very quickly. I think it was in the southern most hangar and that was also about 3 years ago. Somewhere I have a picture…

I think you will find that it belonged to the Redhill ‘Wings Museum’, now at Balcome.
They sold the glider on ebay just after they moved, and it was purchased by a glider pilot, who intends to restore to fly.
It was a Slingsby Kirby Cadet TX8, number TS258 Dating from about 1947.

I know, because I went to look at it.
