Parachute 15d/733

Thank you for the replies. The 15D/733 is stamped onto a little flap with poppers on the edge of the chute, so obviously it does not refer to the canopy then. It is white nylon (I think) I have not got the room to unfold it to measure the diameter or look for further markings so it is still in a large black sack which it completely fills. If we get a nice day I’ll take it outside and unfold it (but not today rain again!)

I’ve got 15D/733 in my copy of AP1086 Sec 15D as the ‘De-reefer pocket’ of the Mk 2 42ft Cluster Type Parachute Assembly (p/n MRI 343), it has a part number of GQ.10554.

I would imagine that the GQ 152 would be an inspectors stamp applied at manufacture.

The pack for this parachute has a Sec/Ref of 15D/773, the canopy 15D/785

15D would seem to make it a supply drop chute (15A was personell chutes). I haven’t found any reference to 15D/733 but I’ll keep looking.
Any idea of the diameter? 18 ft, 28 ft, 43 ft, 60 ft and 100 ft are common supply drop sizes. Other clues are the material, cotton, rayon, nylon and the colour, red , white, blue, yellow or Olive. I think we can leave out construction til later.

GQ certainly made parachutes for the MoD and 152 could be their reference to model. The other number could actually be the contract number it was purchased under. Sorry not much help I know.
