I know we have been having some rough weather in the Channel, but I do hope the Goodwin Sands Dornier hasn’t been washed up in France!

I am led to believe that the French Dornier 17 parts are heading to Cosford

Was an identity ever established for this Dornier at Breck?
By: Arabella-Cox - 24th May 2013 at 15:51
Yes, I spotted that! I think somebody didn’t know and just made it up. You wouldn’t think that journalists would do such a thing, would you?
Some stencilled instructions surviving, apparently : “Nicht Betretten” (No entry…or step?) and wiring diagram for the bomb rack showing “black, light grey and red” quite clearly. I suspect there will be some interesting items deeper into the sand.

Curious that in the original newspaper report posted by Andy it says the crew was 6 to 8 people.

I would say it has just fragmented through the actions of time and tide rather than been blown up. Presumably, the sand has shifted and buried wreckage has emerged.
Bomb racks seem quite good condition, all things considered and at least there is evidence that this is a Do 17 notwithstanding the debate about if it might be a Ju 88 or He 111…!

Looks like it was blown up some time after the crash judging by the fragmented but compact location of the wreckage. I would think the engines and props and other larger pieces are likely to be under the sand, too. Thankfully, if it is the aircraft in the pictures, the crew would have walked or swam away from that one.
Nice site and pics.

May one presume that this is likely to be a Battaille de France aircraft rather than a later version?

Thought I’d try another way….!
I would think that once the concretion is knocked off that gun ring and the MG15 and conserved it would be a nice item alone!
