Cockpit Sections & Retro Equipment wanted: to celebrate 95 years of the RAF, 6-7 Jul

Dear All,

The Waddington Airshow, 6-7 July 2013, has been selected to celebrate 95 years of the RAF. We are putting together a display to demonstrate some of our equipment from the last 95 years.

We are looking for cockpit sections primarily; but any equipment from throughout our 95 years of history would be fantastic. If anybody is interested in displaying, I would love to hear from you.

Personally, I would love a Nimrod cockpit section being a former member of 201 Sqn; but all ex-RAF types are welcome.

If you have anything that you think would add to this display (i.e. not just cockpit sections) please pm me; and I will be happy to discuss arrangements with you.

Waddington cockpit display

1. Leaving Newark Air Museum on Friday
2. All set up and ready to go at Waddo
3. The Phantom “Gang”
4. The ‘pits
5. Wayne in action
6. View of the line-up from the top of the Phantom
7. Polish beauty
8. Photographer’s platform (great for dad to take a pic of the kid in the cockpit)
9. Another view of the line-up

Likewise, I’d like to offer thanks to Scott McColl and those who organised this event to make us feel most welcome and very well looked after.

I’d also like to thank my “gang”: Wayne Fuller, Dave Stubbington, Derek Mallam and Rob Rymer for making our contribution to the line-up run so smoothly. We must have had hundreds through the Phantom (most people trying front and rear cockpits) without any mishaps and all sporting the “Phantom Smile” as they got seated and looked around at the myriad buttons, switches and knobs on the equipment.

Anon.

Hunter,

Thank you for the info. Email sent, there are a couple of potential obstacles but hopefully we can sort something out.

Cheers

Waddo, maybe its a bit late but why not get in touch with the RIAT crowd that managed to put together the centenary of aviation celebration? Maybe the airshow office weren’t aware of the 95th anniversary of the RAF…(I seem to remember the Spitfire 70th caught them out).

Well I know where you could get a complete freshly finished Spitfire replica which has a fitted cockpit interior?

To be honest, I hadn’t responded to the thread before as I thought Neil already had contacted you – so if you are interested – all our details are on the website including contact information to get a speedy response if needed!

Thank you to everyone that has responded to me so far, we have the makings of a good exhibit.

There are a couple of key ingredients missing:

– a spitfire or hurricane cockpit. Doesn’t have to be a cockpit, it could be a full/partial static aircraft
– WW1 aircraft/vehicles or general memorabillia

We are hoping for a repertoire covering all of the last 95 years. Any offers, ideas or contacts would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

No e-mail received as of nine-thirty this evening, Waddo.

It may be a bit late now anyway as I have another event planned. I also need to negotiate terms with the museum at which it is stored.

Let’s have a chat anyway and see if we can do anything.

VX927,

Thanks for that. I will get in touch with them about that.

If anyone knows of anything pre-WW2, I would also be extremely keen to hear about it.

Mike,

I think your email was on a list that was passed to me. I believe I may have emailed you earlier today. If you are still interested in displaying we would love to have you. PM via this or respond to the email sent and we can see what could be arranged. My phone number was also in the email.

I contacted yourself/someone a few months ago offering an F-4 Phantom FGR2 cockpit section after a previous appeal for stuff for the show. No one even bothered to reply.

Thanks Phil.

I knew there was one out there, I just didn’t know the contact details or web address.

If you want a Nimrod cockpit and are willing to foot the bill for transport, maybe you could coax the one from Morayvia up at Kinloss Airfield
