Beaufighter Armour Plate

I picked this piece up last year and have just got around to cleaning it.

It was claimed to be a piece of armour plate from a Beaufighter.

There are some faint marks visible that appear to be AS and below is 1 2617/1.

Can anyonbe confirm what it is and where it comes from.

I see that 126 was a Beaufort stamp?
