individual escape dinghies issued to bomber aircrew ??

i am reading 578 SQUADRON OPERATIONS 1944-45 CW CHUCK ADAMS

in the entry for june 5/6 1944 the squadron attacked MONT FLEURY

but there are a number of references to individual dinghies – and in the case of MZ513 appeared to lead to aircrew becoming wedged in the escape hatch when the a/c was abandoned and they were carrying individual dinghies ………

is this a case of mistaken memory – or did some squadrons actually have individual dinghies ?

i thought all HALIFAX a/c carried a single escape dinghy in the wing

For a more helpful answer, from 1941 the observers parachute harness included a couple of rings in the rear to which the crewman could attach a K type dinghy if he had to exit the aircraft while over water.

A dinghy in the wing is all well and good if you ditch but what happens if you have to bail out over water?
