KC Holland

Hello this is my first post so please all be forgiving if I make any mistakes of etiquette.

I am researching an incident involving 4 aircraft attacking a He 111P, Wnr.1525, G1+EP of 6/KG 55 which crashed at Wolverton Somerset on 25.09.40 The He111P crash landed and one of the attacking aircraft a Spitfire flown by KC Holland of the RAAF 152Sqn based at RAF Warmwell was killed. I have 4 differing accounts of the incident including two eye witnesses at the time, so any light that could be thrown on the subject would be of great use. Also any photographes of the crash or documentation of the incident again gratefully received. KC Holland was supposedly killed after force landing his Spitfire in the same field as the Heinkel with a head injury, this is not in any official documentation I can find but Im sure it’s somewhere to be found. The 4 differing accounts come to how he was killed so really looking for a more definitive account.

1. He was shot by the rear gunner after following the HE111 down to the field.

2. Was flying over the wreck when the captain of the HE111 shot at Holland from the rear gun after the crash.

3. Was doing a victory roll over the crash with canopy open and canopy slid back hitting head and force landed with head injury and later died. (Is that possible)

4. Was in a friendly fire incident with one of the Hurricanes from 238Sgn

All these have been said happened and I am trying to get a definite answer if possible.

The crew bailed out before the crash so who shot the rear gun? The farmer said before he died that he saw the captain shoot the rear gun as KC Holland was flying over head but he couldn’t remember if Holland was doing a victory roll. The second eye witness a young woman at the time said she distinctly saw the canopy slide shut with a snap as he did a victory roll and the plane descended rapidly before making a forced hard landing and the pilot had a severe head injury. This could be coincidence of being hit and the canopy being closed all at the same time?

Another 3 party 3 times removed suggested it was known that it was friendly fire from another Hurricane, but this is the only mention I have had so far. Not one said he was shot as the plane went down which suggests that the rear Gunner had in fact bailed out and the firing of the rear gun was when the Heinkle was on the ground.

Holland was the youngest RAAf pilot at the time so I am told, any info on this would be appreciated. I am just trying to piece the facts together as best I can before making a film of the whole incident from the start of the bombers taking off to the final dog fight and crash of both aircraft.
