The seats are going quickly – the museum has a few other parts:
We also have several Seat Belts, Pairs of Arm Rests and call panels with lights for sale. Also one Sick Bag and a couple of cup holders

Very good idea – today 4 were spoken for! They are so art deco. I am using mine as a new lounge chair!
There are also some BAC 111 ones

Thats great. Do we need to contact the museum direct to secure one?

If anyone wants a passenger seat from Saggy, the museum has a limited number of these available for a minimum donation of £50. All money ploughed back into restoration.
They are awesome and based on a patent dated 1934 for the Empire Flying Boat – some have Imperial Airways plates.

A clean by who ? The days of sending people to clamber over a jet with no risk assessment and safety equipment are long over !
From my experience of RAF Officers, I recall an elderly WW2 veteran who was so disgusted at the state of his Church brasses that he cleaned them all himself. I don’t see how getting a high power hose out would have been difficult, I’m not suggesting a major overhaul..

Not to mention the owner being short of funds and man hours, making cleaning the jet – that is likely to get scrapped anyway – a low priority.

How on earth was she allowed to remain so mucky? Didnt any commanding oficer suggest she should be given a good clean?

The F-4J at Boscombe had spars in a very similar condition to that! Unfortunately the British climate is a killer!

Wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a mask on when dealing with that.. 😉

I spent a few hours trying to remove the fwd wing bolts and finishing the tidying job. We have a number of the seat call/light panels which are likely to be sold to raise money for her restoration/presentation. They are delightful items.
The carry thru spar corrosion is little short of epic and some of the worst I have ever seen on a static aircraft. To give scale I scooped up a tiny part of the exfoliation/corrosion. Not nice when whipped up by the wind and breathed in!

Just come across this thread by accident after doing a search for the Provost that used to be based at Lyneham, anyway just wondered if anyone here may be interested in some photos I took of XK699 just after it was installed as the gate guardian. The photos were taken in May 1987 and are incorporated in my blog here
