I have a Bristol Cherub engine installed in my Heath Baby Bullet. I just received the overhauled magneto and expect the carburetor to be finished next week. I am seeking any information concerning the proper fuel and oil to use. The engine was overhauled in the early ’60s and stored in a glass display at a museum until recently. This is a type lll engine manufactured in 1926. Thanks for any help. Tim

Pretty sure BAC Drone G-AEDB had (has) a Cherub; I don’t know of any special fuel/oil when she was flying from Duxford in the 1980s. Perhaps G-ASEA will know?

I also have a series III but have had the carb “Misappropriated”. (i.e. stolen) would you have a spare or know of one available at reasonable cost?. When I had the Cherub in the S.A.S Monoplane (aka the Savage Special) we used to run it on white spirit ( Britolite,Shell X55, Pegasol,) with 25% benzol and Castrol R castor based racing oil. Ahhhhh! Can you imagine the delightful smell of that combination? Had no trouble with that combination. Later we have used Toluole instead of Benzol as it is more readily available and less costly. Do not use any rubber with toluole as it will perish it in short order. Neoprene or nitrile hoses are OK.
For those of you forumites reading this, I know I have asked before, but if anyone knows of a Zenith type 36 A.K.B. carb I can acquire I will love you to bits forever. (Or at least ’til next week)
