Morning all
I read on one of the aviation forums that someone had seen 3 Tornados road running on the 20th March. It was later confirmed that they were departures from Shawbury of the last three Tornado F.3s that were in storage. And as mentioned in a recent issue of Flypast, they are all now at what I presume is still the the RAF Fire Fighting CTE (Central Training Establishment)
Although I guess that means a slow lingering death, at least they are not going to be torched too much and are providing training for the worst case scenario.
Now that the Army are getting Leuchars, I wonder whats going to happen to the preserved airframes 111 Sqns Lightning and the Phantom and F.3 on the gate. Although there will be a small number of RAF personnel staying behind to provide support as the runways will be there as an RLG for Lossie.
Cheers

One hears the last three F3’s departed Shawbury for spares recovery
They’ve been taken to Manston to let the baby firemen play with them !

How many F3s have been preserved in museums? There’s one at Vigna di Valle, one at Hendon, one at East Fortune, plus gate guards at Leuchars and Coningsby. Any others?

I’ve read that two of Shawbury’s F-3s are going to Manston with the first one due on March 23rd. Not sure if its arrived yet?

The F.3’s were in line for the RTP programme last summer but I guess the paperwork wsn’t in order. As for the Leuchars machines – I am quite optomistic
about their future. It would be a nice move if a Phantom could move to East Fortune.
