Best way to sell paintings

Just a quick question. I am looking sell off three original aviation paintings and was wondering if eBay is he way to go, or if there is a better route to take? Hoping that someone might have some experience.

Cheers

I have to agree that Ebay is definitely not the place to sell these.
I don’t know why but many good quality collectables don’t seem to acheive good prices on Ebay and conversely some buyers seem to pay a lot of money for poorer quality items.
The big auction houses who are likely to get you a good price tend to charge a fortune in fees and commission.
I can put you in touch with an aviation art dealer who is also an aviation artist who may be prepared to sell them on commission but I am not sure that he will have the funds to buy them. If you are interested please send a PM.

I haven’t taken any pics yet. Do you think it’s worth sending pics to galleries?
The Les Vowles pic is called “something special” and is of tfc’s p51 candyman (now ofmc’s ferocious frankie). The two Wright pics are of a mkIX spit and a mossie. Was thinking of seeing if there were any galleries visiting old Sarum today?

Thanks again for your help

Gallery wise all I can think of is

http://www.aceshighgallery.co.uk/

Have you got any pictures of them?

I agree about EBay, I have picked up paintings on there for a pittance of what they should have brought.

painting

Thanks very much for your help guys.

They are definitely all original, my dad bought two of them from Gordon F Wright’s gallery in Salisbury some time back and commissioned Les Vowles to do the other, so I am in no doubt that they are the real deal.

Can you recommend any galleries?

You could try registering on the Fightercontrol and ukar forums, they both have for sale sections as opposed to this site.

You do not state if they are signed or have the certificates of authenticity with them as these will fetch a bit more money.

The OP is referring to “original aviation paintings”, not prints

Painting

Hi Marts
I wouldn’t even think of selling original paintings via an auction on-line or off. Auctions are very fickle and of the moment, Pimpernel is quite correct, a gallery is the place to sell, but what you get for a painting does depend on a number of variables, the kudos of the artist, the subject matter to name a few.

Hi Mayhem Marshy.

You do not state if they are signed or have the certificates of authenticity with them as these will fetch a bit more money.

You can take these to a specialist gallery dealing in aviation art and they might take them off your hands.

If you put them on evil bay you will not get their real worth if sold seperately.
The frames do not always boost the price either as this is a personal touch.

Hope this helps.
