Spitfire oxygen regulator

Whilst having a sort out in my shed I came across in one of my boxes a oxygen regulator mk vIIIa ref no 6d/124.
I now this was fitted to spitfires but wondered if anyone knew what mark of a/c and was they fitted to any other aircraft.
It’s in reasonable condition but the glass is missing of one gauge so letters faded and the other gauge the glass is broken and discoloured so can’t determine wether the face is any good.
If anyone wants a pic I will try and get one .
Thank you in advance

This is the VIIIA*.

Yes, VIIIA* was fitted to Spitfire and other types.

They were intended for use with the ‘D’ type masks (and earlier) so 1939/40 period.

Air Ministry (forum member, not the organisation!) can tell you more.

This is the VIIIA* or VIIIB regulator.

I suspect you have the VIIIA8 as the B was intended for stations other than the pilot’s and had no contents guage – just a face on the left.

Yes, VIIIA* was fitted to Spitfire and other types.

They were intended for use with the ‘D’ type masks (and earlier) so 1939/40 period.

Sorry yeah it is the viiia. My mistake. Thankyou for pointing it out. Much appreciated . Will amend my post

Hi jdh. Thanks for that info.
Least I know what mk spitfire it covers.
I have it in a sealed bag now and in a box in the shed to be safe.
Thank you. 🙂

I think it was the earlier mark Spits upto about the mark9 that had this type of oxy regulator. Sure somebody who knows more than me will be aong shortly to confirm or otherwise. If the glass is broken on the gauges it might be a good idea to get it replaced as the faces of these gauges have radium paint on them, the dust from which you do not really want to inhale.
