Magazine circulation: Britain At War vs FlyPast

Might someone tell me which has the larger monthly sales — Britain At War or FlyPast magazine? Same publisher, of course. I’m considering the eventual submission of a story on a 1945 Far East RAF Liberator loss/crew grave rediscovery, and it would help me just a little to know the sales figures.

As Key Publishing might not especially like the numbers to be broadcast on this forum, I’d be happy to receive a PM on the subject of sales from anyone willing to share them.

Many thanks,

Matt

Have fun there Moggy, my great Uncle died in a field hospital from wounds received at High Wood, have been there several times and always find something new to see. Will be back on Oct 1 2016 for the centenary!

Agree with you about BAW its a cracking read, I have them all from Issue 1

My Uncle died on the Somme and I am organising a battlefield tour there for this June – I usually do small groups in Normandy.

This one is full, but if you need any advice on visiting, let me know.

Thanks, gents. Actually, if I don’t get around to writing something myself, an author with whom I’ve shared research offered to submit a piece — but he is pushing for that other monthly UK magazine, saying more people in high places are likely to read it, vs FP or BAW. Not sure what he bases this upon. I have my favorites in mind, so we shall see.

I think I will contact the FP and BAW editors for opinions. Great suggestion, Andy.

Moggy, I, too, like BAW, though I know there has been griping that it is now too heavy on the air-related themes. My grandfather was wounded in the trenches in WWI, and I’m beginning to finally pay more attention to coverage of that war. And to other non-WWII flying subjects.

Cheers,

Matt

Matt

Along with others here, I contribute to both magazines – BAW regularly but FP less-so. However, I rather suspect that the story you are talking about is more BAW than FP but it would be best to run it past the editors before sending it on spec.

It’s a cracking good mag though.

For those of us with some (limited) interest in boats and scuffling about in trenches bashing the Boche it has a lot to commend it.

I subscribed well before Key grabbed it.

same magazine IMO – what doesn’t go into FP goes into BAW. Count the number of A/C related stories in BAW and you will see what i mean

Matt, I didn’t open the Media File links – sorry! 😮

I’ve checked my files and I only have a pre-Key media file for Britain At War from 2008 – at that time the print quantity was less than the current audited figure for FlyPast.

I hope that this helps!

Thanks, TwinOtter23,

I followed your suggestion, but I could only find FlyPast’s circulation. Britain At War’s web link lists nothing in the open — perhaps because Key Publishing only took over this magazine fairly recently, and the sales numbers date back to the previous publisher.

If I don’t hear via this forum from someone regarding the Britain At War sales figures, I’ll contact the advertising point-of-contact by e-mail. Or ask for the Britain At War media pack…Good suggestion from you on that.

Regards,

Matt

Matt, the details should be freely available by following the links on this webpage http://www.key.aero/magazines.asp – best click on the ‘advertise’ links or download the media files! 🙂
