Sunday at 07:10 am Floating Fortress, 1959 documentary about HMS Victorious the aircraft carrier.
It does take some scanning but they seem to be playing these odd programmes in between the usual arty stuff

Any idea if this is available on any sort of catchup facility or going to be repeated ? as I only have “poor peoples TV” so would need to see if a friend can record it for me if available.

I would have thought in a salt ladened atmosphere, ease of maintainence, ie lubrication etc.

Wish l had seen that.
Funny, the spinner question was asked recently about the Fairey Battle.
The Skyraider never used a prop spinner across the many variants, which seemed fairly standard across US Navy carrier types, especially the heavier medium-performance types such as the Avenger, even the high-performance fighters such as the Corsair, Hellcat, Fireball, Tigercat & Bearcat didn’t have spinners fitted.
I can only think that the advantages of saving weight, more airflow through the engine, and having quick maintenance access to the prop hub was more important than any aerodynamic advantage given by having a spinner attached.

Finaly got round to watching my recording. Lovely that it was in colour.
A couple of things! Why did the Skyraiders have no spinner or prop hub/boss, just the centre painted white. How long did the Whirlwinds have the colour scheme?
Final note, the assistant producer was the recenlty deceased Micheal Winner!!
