Chaps -following the acquisition of the Grumman armoured turret glass (assumed to be from the Tarpon lost in Orkney), I have now acquired the pistol control unit for the Grumman turret and I already have a mk3A gun sight.
Apart from the ANM2 50 Cal and some scraps of metal there is the basis of a turret project.
Are there any other parts out there ?
Are there any plans or dimensions available or is it a letter to the FAAM and another trip to Yeovil ?
The Duxford Avenger is still suspended ?
There is some good background in these two links original documents and an old walk around.

Apologies
I was cleaning the controller last week but apart from that no progress!
No further contact from anyone in the USA who had parts or projects to sell.
I have about 50% less spare time than a year ago so time is limited at the moment but it is one of two major tasks that I have planned to start this spring.
The first is to do something with the Ju88 tail and this is the second.

Chris, interesting about the Martin turret.

Sorry to resurrect a zombie, but have not heard from the guy with stockpile.
I also failed to contact.
I did get a pm from a chap in US who said he had a project for sale (ca. 6 months ago).. I asked for pics and prices – no reply.
I have been too busy to progress this year apart from some basic research – but the controller is sitting here ready for use.

Awesome find!
Albert’s is the one selling those parts?
Indeed.
In 2006, 200-300 barrels of assorted turret bits were discovered at a salvage yard, the remnants of material built at the Emerson plant in St. Louis, Missouri. The pics I posted are just a small fraction of what is (was) available. This plant was subcontracted to build parts for many US turrets including various Sperry dorsal and ball turrets, Emerson nose, Aero 9, Aero 14, Martin 250CE, 150SE (Avenger) and others.

Thats just not fair – someone having that many parts…
I registered yesterday – stony silence so far….
Albert’s WIX handle is “astixjr”. Try a PM if you haven’t yet. I’ll let him know you’re trying to connect with him.

Yes, it’s very expensive. It almost cost 2k and I made the mould myself in order to keep the cost down.
Brian, I think the extruded curves that take the plexi glass will be quite a challenge to form or have made commercially, if you find a solution at reasonable cost then I would be very interested. The moulded plexi I understand is also very expensive to have made, Elliot will be able to confirm this having recently had his Whitley turret perspex made. I have been tempted to do a turret project of some description myself for the museum so I watch with interest! Goodluck, I am sure picking an American Turret will mean more parts etc that are generic with other types of turrret.

Pagen – I was looking through my photos of FAAM from last year – I took lots of photographs of the Avenger then but as a turret was not on my radar – not of that section.
Thank you for clarifying. I will check the pics of the reserve collection now.
