I notice from the latest “Flypast” that there is to be a “World Festival of Flight” at Prestwick Airport from August 30 for 10 days.

Unfortunately the website is “under construction” so few details other than the Home Page. I understand there is to be an air display at Ayr seafront. Pity they couldn’t have an air display at Prestwick Airport itself rather like the old “Scottish Air Show” which hasn’t been held since 1992. Why did it end? All this may make up for the rather dismal airshow scene in Scotland with no more Leuchars Air Shows, no Perth Airshow and the East Fortune display which is just flybys from a few planes with no aircraft actually operating from the airfield. How I long for the glory days of the Strathallan Airshow in the 70s when you could stand a few yards away from a Hurricane when it started up.

Any helicopters displaying at East Fortune usually land on site … No public access though, before displaying. Some such as RN Sea King display usually RTB but others land before later departing.
