If the Flypast Forum folded, where would you go to?

I’m curious about what else is out there.

I otherwise browse Pprune Aviation History & Nostalgia, WIX, or Plane Talk. Where else would you/do you go?

Too bad, it was (usually) fun while it ladted.

What I can’t believe is that Key management (who given their titles should be interested in the subject and see the advantages of sponsoring the world’s best aviation history forum) didn’t know what they had.

No, not even nailed there. It’s shuffled off this mortal coil, pushing up the daisies, etc..

Obviously not a Red Dwarf fan as it would be “Its dead Dave”.

What do you mean if it folded?

Stick a fork in it, it’s done.

Or to paraphrase everyone’s favorite space surgeon…Dr. Leonard McCoy….

 ” It’s dead, Jim”.

Interesting reading the comments back when it was “The” forum to visit. Wonder if it will ever recover?

Lets not let this happen for sure !

BlueNoser352 checking in :

Yikes…. love this forum and have learned much about aviation history by the great & informative post I read here. I guess for US reader “Air Classics’ which is a magazine that deals much warbird info is a source and magzine I read much of the time . Been a FlyPast reader for many years …great magazine and a salute to the staff for its efforts here in putting out a first class publication.

Not sure if any of you were in this group marketing survery back in the early 90’s …I came to the October air show at Duxford and young lady from FLYPAST had a group of us fill out some surverys as to our thoughts on the magazine and what topics appealed to us and the readers in general. Seems about fifteen of us were in room at Duxford and participated in this event.

Never saw of heard of what became of his effort ….. I took a picture of the group and if I find it will scan it here …… seems it was the weekend when I got to see a real Me-109 fly along side a Spitfire ….. I remember it was the Me-109 captured in North Africa ..captured by the British and was the Me-109 that crashed landed at Duxford later on !

Hope the magazine will be around for many more years to come…. !

Thanks BlueNoser352 !

I spend most of my time on my own forum these days, The Wings Over New Zealand Forum, and only pop in here for short bursts nowadays.

I am also a member on The Wings Over New Zealand Forum, and two others. But I’m mostly here or WONZ. Very busy with work and life, but I come on here to relax and enjoy something I love ‘Aviation’. My best friend who is also a member on here suggested I join. Plus it is a good way of connecting with some new contacts on some personal projects in the pipeline which is cool. Comparing the 4 forums I am a member of, this forum has the most activity and members.
One forum I managed to get a life ban without ever making a post or doing anything 😮

I like this forum and Wings Over New Zealand Forum, I don’t have time for others. 😎

But, don’t forget that you get out of something what you put in so don’t forget to be a contributor not a bystander. 🙂

I only use this forum since avi8 closed. avi8 was a far better forum.
I would go back to buying the mag and probably use airfix collectors forum more often.
Forums for me are just an interesting way to spend a few minutes. Not something to take too seriously.

WIX

The bad points: Overall, I don’t think many WIX-ers isn’t as knowledgeable as the best people here. Then again, this forum isn’t what it used to be in terms of experts. And WIX has a serious humor deficit.
The good points: Not as Spitfire/Mustang/Lancaster/B-17-centric and there are several real-live warbird owners/pilots there. And rather surprisingly, not a lot of partisan fan boys there…people have turned the Modern Military Forum into a joke.

I upset some colonial chap on FB the other day when they were asking what was the best heavy bomber of WWII.. They were all blathering about B17’s & B29’s.. I suggested the Lancaster & mentioned that the B17 was a “4 engine medium” as it took 3 B17’s to carry the load of 1 Lancaster…That didn’t go over too well… 🙂

One thing I draw from this thread is that the Flypast Historic Aviation Forum seems to stand out in terms of breadth of coverage and contributors, esp UK based activities but with a healthy international flavour.

Nothing else even close. The depth, detail and knowledge of ‘anything/everything’ is beyond compare, from the biggest museums, to half an Auster frame in a bush in Somerset. If you Google a historic aviation subject, this forum is often in the top 3 returns.

I have hardly opened any of my editions of Wrecks & Relics since 2004, just no need. This is a formidable resource, and all free!

Must be the 10 year anniversary coming up soon?
