Got this photo off Ebay with some others sometime ago. Think it might be a Me 210 or a Me 410. Does anyone have an idea as to the location and what type it may be.
Thanks in advance
Ian

That is good to know, Ian.
So are the other shots of the other 210? Or are they all of the same incident??

Having checked with Philippa, yes, your photo is the Robin Hood’s bay loss, Ian. See you in a different hole!

There is after all, little better than standing around in holes. Apart from pulling interesting things out of them.:)

Funnily enough, I have often found them down some hole or other over the years…!!

Hi Andy Yes i do know Phillipa and Ian last saw them both in a hole in Fishponds Bristol last year.

Certainly not ignoring, Adrian!
If so; which is which?
That’s OK, Andy – I just felt a bit guilty about the previous one – had I not seen the photo from Partridge Green I’d practically have been prepared to swear that that cottage was somewhere else!
Unfortunately I don’t know anything else about the two incidents, but I do enjoy the detective work…

She did send me copies of her notes, Ian, and the ‘today’ photos she took….but I’d love to be clear as to which photograph shows which incident.

Aunts at dawn, Ian! I’ll get her opinion but I believe the burned 210 is the Robin Hood’s Bay loss.

Wellington285
A pleasure.
However, in case you are very confused and don’t have an ‘Aunt Phil’ I was referring to another Ian around these parts and his Aunt, Philippa Hodgkiss who, I know, has some information on the site(s) from her visits these with Peter Foote.
Years ago I had contact details for Walter Maurer and wrote to him in Germany, but he was one of the few German aircrew I tracked down who didn’t respond, unfortunately.

Some additional info on both losses:

Many thanks to you all for the info.
The photo then is from the Me210 crash at Fylingthorpe Sunnyside Farm, brilliant.
I will have to contact my Aunt Phil and see what she has.
Thanks again
Ian

From the descriptions I have read I think this is the one in Ian’s photo as it appears to have disintegrated

This appears to be the one in Andy’s photos

Certainly not ignoring, Adrian!
I think you are possibly correct and it may well be that we have photos of both incidents.
If so; which is which?

After my last effort you may wish to ignore this, Andy, and I won’t complain, but I reckon that your photos are the other incident – I think that in the lower one you can see the rear portion of the other engine nacelle, whereas Wellington285’s picture shows that part burnt out.
Pushing the boat out a bit further, his photo also appears to show an aircraft down in a crop sown in rows, while yours show an aircraft in pasture.

Here are two more images.
I have never been certain which of the two episodes this actually is, or even if it is the same incident as the image posted by Wellington285. All I know for certain is that it is one of the Me 210s lost on 6 September 1942.
Ian – any idea? Can you ask your Aunt Phil? I have an extensive file, combat reports, newspaper clippings, witness accounts etc and even your Aunt’s notes about the visits with Peter Foote. Just that I am unclear about which incident(s) we are looking at in these images.
PS – I think your image, Wellington285, is from The National Archives file at Kew. One of the rare examples of Luftwaffe crash related photographs being held there.

Yes, this is one of the two Me 210s down on 4 September 1942 over Yorkshire. I have several other shots of this incident, I think.
One was at Fell Briggs Farm, New Marske, the other at Sunnyside Farm, Fyling Thorpe.
I have a feeling this was the latter, and the other shots I have are the former. I will sort them out later today.
