B 24 part

I have just been asked by a friend in the Netherlands if i can identify this part which I cannot any ideas ?

Its from a B24H Nr 41-28963 ( J4-T ) that crashlanded on a farmers land in 1945

An old lady was handing it over a couple of days ago and told us that her father took it from the wreck the same day it landed.

I have looked over the web not finding anything similar.

The whole item is about 34 cm long , 6 to 8 cm thick and the 6 vanes ( only one remains) can be folded in and they are pushed out with springs.

The item have some numbers: on the thickest part WE 5202 and on the โ€œpipeโ€ MF 5038N

Call the bomb disposal squad! Anon is right, that’s for dropping not flying I’d have thought! Those look to be pop out fins at the back.

Reminds me of a certain day in Wales Ian I’ll tell him to hit it with a spade !!:)

Hello,
B-24H 41-28963 , MACR 11730, 17th January 1945.

At 1515hrs (LT) a/c made a crash landing at Hellerups gรกrd (Falkenberg).

Mission target was a synthetic oil distilation plant at Harburg.

A good report on this can be found in “Making for Sweden” vol 2. from page 203/6, Case Number 234 .

I think fouga is right. Definitely air dropped munition. Can’t find an exact match from google under cluster bombs so I guess target marking.

Certainly looks droppable. Was thinking sonobuoy related being a b24, but not big enough. Cold sweats… ๐Ÿ™

B-24 part

It looks like it could be more ordnance related, Graham, than an aircraft part.

Anon.
