Are there any photos out there of the single 20mm Hispano cannon, configured as a ground mount AA weapon, as used by the RAF during WW2?
Thanks,
Tim

In about 1969 I found a 20mm Oerlikon cannon still laying alonngside its mount at the Pevensey CH radar station. It was in a brick revetment, alongside its cone-shaped mount. Although minus its ‘inards’ it was substantially intact. We carted it back to 54 Sqn (Eastbourne) ATC although it was later taken away by the Police! I have a press cutting photo of it somewhere. Incredible that it was still there. The mount and revetment are still there.

Quick google on ‘Raf Regiment Hispano cannon’ did the trick.
Is that Burma? Are those Spitfires? Did the Rock Apes go too far when the order went out to dig in?………
I’ll get my coat

Not heard of Hisso’s being used in ground role, only 20mm Oerlikons and 20mm Polsten – in any event air spec Hissos were designed to be fired pneumatically no?

“Later” aircraft (Meteor, Canberra etc) had an electrical firing system that had glorified solenoid called a Maxiflux Unit fitted.

Can’t help with pics but am wondering if you are referring to the 20mm Oerlikon which had a magazine mounted on top. Have no recollection of a Hispano magazine.
