RCAF Leonard Birchall Catalina

A quick question on an RCAF flown aircraft:

There is one pic of Leonard Birchall’s Catalina with the black cat on a maple leaf Nose Art.

Why is the leaf in the modern image shown as being green rather than the normal red maple leaf?
